NAHARLAGUN, Dec 6: Five youths have been arrested in connection with various snatching cases in the Itanagar Capital Region (ICR), capital police said on Sunday. According to the police, several cases of snatching have been reported in various Police Stations of the Capital Complex for the past few weeks.
"Since the past few weeks, many cases of snatching are being reported in various police stations of the Capital Complex. The miscreants would snatch, rob mobile phones, wallets, bags etc from anyone. In most cases, the miscreants used two wheelers without a number plate," informed Superintendent of Police , Itanagar Capital Region – Jimmy Chiram.
In response, a team was formed led by SP himself , SDPO Naharlagun Rike Kamsi, OC PS Naharlagun -Inspector Khiksi Yangfo, Inspector Tadu Hassang, Sub-Inspector S.S Jha, Constable K.Samyor and others of Naharlagun Police Station. The team made all out effort to trace the miscreants. During the operation, a drive was conducted to regulate the plying of non-registered two-wheelers in the township area. Till now seventeen such vehicles have been impounded and challaned, the SP informed in a communiquè.
Electronic surveillance, ground intelligence collection and continuous efforts finally led to arrest of the five robbers and sixteen cell-phones recovered in connection with the different cases and many other unreported instances. Some of the recovered phones have been handed over to the owners.
The five miscreants are drug addicts who after robbing cell-phones and selling them to unsuspecting people mostly illiterate or the elderly and use the money to procure drugs from Assam.
The five arrested accused are Langda Tanu @ Nunu, (21), Hamam Tachung (20) ,Margang Tanak(20), Maring Bagjam (23) and Mai Rebi (20 ) and nine cases have been registered against them at Naharlagun PS, said the SP
