ITANAGAR, Dec 27: Member of Parliament Tapir Gao today virtually launched the first Lisu-English Dictionary Application.
The Lisu-English & English-Lisu Dictionary android App has some 20,000 definitions and over 5500 entries. The App has several useful features. One can switch and do “search” from Lisu to English and vice versa. After software programmers have put it together, Google has reviewed and accepted it. It’s now available in Google’s Playstore for free.
Chief Minister Pema Khandu and DCM Chowna Mein had released this work in book-form in December 2018 at Vijoynagar.
The book was reprinted at least three times in Thailand, Myanmar and here in India.
"In order to educate, promote and preserve our Lisu language, both me and my wife have toiled for many years. There are estimated one million and two hundred thousand Lisu speakers worldwide. And in our own country, there are some 5000 Lisu speakers. In addition, there are many who want to learn and research our tribal languages," said Avia Ngwazah who along with wife Jibiye Ngwazah authored the work.
Developing our work into an android application is beyond our initial target. I owe gratitude to our friends who provided advice and helped in the process of funding in the creation of the app. Equally, we also thank minister Kamlung Mossang for providing substantial financial help in the printing of the dictionary when it was in the book-form, he said.
