DOIMUKH, Mar 8: The First Lady of the State Neelam Misra participated in the International Women’s Day celebration at Rajiv Gandhi University today.
Speaking on the occasion, she called upon every member of society to provide equal opportunity for all women. She said that the constitution of our country guarantees equal rights for all but still many disparities can be observed in society.
Speaking on the theme of ‘Break the Bias’, she said that it’s time to celebrate for being an empowered woman. Sharing some of her personal take on the issues of the women in society, she said that mindset is a big problem which brings in disparities. She said that in this mission the catalyst is education of the girl child.
The First Lady of the State said that economic empowerment is also a defining factor which can bring the desired change. One has to work hard to achieve the goals. A significant problem especially, in our tribal State, is lack of awareness. Schools and colleges should be used in creating such awareness to the younger generations. Social evils like dowry is eating up our system and it should be banned, she said.
The First Lady of the State highlighted that the law of the land is very strict and for every crime of gender bias, law must immediately come into play.
The First Lady of the State felicitated Wushu Champions, who brought laurels for the State of Arunachal Pradesh. She also visited the ‘Women’s day 2022 Exhibition cum Sale’, interacted with artists of the Fine Arts Department and released a book by the Department of Psychology on the occasion.
Dr. Vaishali Kushwaha, wife of Vice Chancellor, RGU and Smt Ratan Anya, Chairperson, Oju Welfare Association (OWA) graced the occasion as Guest of Honour and Special Guest respectively.
A colourful cultural programme was presented on the occasion by RGU lady teaching faculties, non-teaching staff, RGU Research scholars, students of Music Department and women of RGU on the occasion.
