ITANAGAR, Aug 26: Home Minister Bamang Felix today inaugurated the office of the Deputy Superintendent of Police (Traffic) at the Itanagar Police Station complex, in presence of DGP R P Upadhaya, Itanagar MLA Techi Kaso, Itanagar Municipal Corporation Mayor Tame Phassang, IGP (L&O) Chuku Apa, and others. 
It is to be mentioned that the Traffic Police service in Arunachal Pradesh started in the year 1986 with only one traffic police personnel, Constable G S Boruah, and who will retire from service in this coming month. 
The traffic police cell in the state witnessed a turning point in the year 2009 with the deployment of about 25 traffic police personnel, and later with the establishment of Dy SP Traffic Cell, Itanagar in the year 2018. However, no designated permanent office was assigned. 
With today’s inauguration of the office of the Dy SP (Traffic), the day-to-day functioning of the traffic cell is expected to be streamlined and be more efficient. 
Minister Felix, in his speech, stressed on behavioural change among the public for a better traffic situation. Stating the creation of more infrastructure or manpower alone cannot resolve traffic problems, Minister Felix said that the Traffic Police Cell need to also capitalise on IEC activities. 
He also expressed his gratitude to the state government under the leadership of Chief Minister Pema Khandu for sufficiently equipping traffic cell with equipments like alcohol breath analyser, body worn cameras, clamps, light and heavy recovery vehicles, etc. 
Earlier, Minister Felix also extended his gratitude to constable G S Boruah, who was present at the occasion, for his more than three decades of service to the state, and stated that his contributions won’t be forgotten.
