NAHARLAGUN, Jan 16: Home Minister Bamang Felix today launched the COVID vaccination drive here at the Tomo Riba Institute of Health and Medical Sciences (TRIHMS).
Speaking to the media after the launch, State Surveillance Officer ISDP Dr. L Jampa informed there are more than 23,000 frontline workers of the Health department who will receive the doses and all of them have been contacted and accordingly the vaccination process will be taken forward. “All the details of the entire lot of beneficiaries have been gathered by the Health Department. The government has planned the vaccination process in phase-wise manner and accordingly all will be vaccinated,” he said, adding that vaccination of co-morbid patients will be done in the last phase. “Around 84 healthcare workers have been vaccinated today in the first phase. 100 persons were supposed to be vaccinated in every single phase but as some healthcare workers are currently engaged in the vaccination process, only 84 turned up,” he divulged.
Meanwhile, Associate Professor of Obstetrics & Gynaecology from TRIHMS Dr Prasanta Kumar Deka became the first health worker in the state to be vaccinated by the Covishield vaccine. Dr. Deka informed that he did not feel any major pain during the injection process and had not encountered any side effects so far. “It is a very nice vaccine without any side effect. I have not felt any kind of dizziness or vomiting tendency after being vaccinated,” he said, while informing that the vaccine is to be taken in the left arm. Among others, MLA Itanagar Techi Kaso, Mayor Tame Phassang, Deputy Mayor Biri Basang, DC ICR K Dulom and officials from the Health department attended the event .
Simultaneous launching of the vaccine were held at nine hospitals in the state which were KDS District Hospital Tawang, BP General Hospital Pasighat, District Hospital Yingkiong, District Hospital Namsai, TRIHMS Naharlagun, GT General Hospital Ziro, General Hospital Aalo, District Hospital Seppa and District Hospital Longding.
