KOLORIANG, Jan 29: Home Minister Bamang Felix today inaugurated a Fire & Emergency Services Station building here in presence of Koloriang MLA Lokam Tassar, Deputy Commissioner Kurung Kumey Bengia Nighee, Director General of Police R P Upadhyaya, SP (Fire) Sanjay Bhatia and others.
Dedicating the fire station to the people of Koloriang, Felix in his speech underscored the importance of creating awareness among the public on fire safety and fire emergencies.
“Fire services cannot avert fire incidents, it can only prevent fire from spreading further. Fire incidents can be stopped if only people are cautious and are aware of fire safety measures,” he said while calling for undertaking IEC activities in this regard.
Seeking cooperation from the public, the Minister appealed to them to refrain from constructing houses haphazardly which creates hurdles for fire tenders from reaching incident spot at the time of emergency. Also, pointing out that most of the fire incidents are reported to be caused by electrical short circuits, Felix advised the people to get electrical wiring of their houses done by a professional.
Meanwhile, emphasizing that land is the pre-requisite for any infrastructural development, Minister Felix called on the public for their cooperation while reiterating that there is enough political will under Chief Minister Pema Khandu-led government to bring development across the state.
He further appealed to the people to take care of government created assets in their respective areas while stating that all such assets are of and for the public only.
Earlier, MLA Tassar in his speech expressed his gratitude to the state government and the Police department for making the dream of having a fire station in Koloriang a reality and said that the facility plays an important role in town safety.
DGP Upadhyaya, Kurung Kumey SP Minjom Ete also spoke on the occasion. While the SP highlighted policing-related challenges, the DGP lauded the fire station staffers for their services all these years despite operating from a temporary station.
