ITANAGAR, Jul 13: State Institute of Rural Development & Panchayati Raj (SIRD&PR) in collaboration with National Health Mission and UNICEF today conducted a state level webinar for imparting training to the state’s panchayat leaders and other functionaries in fighting COVID-19.
Deputy Commissioners, Zilla Parishad chairpersons and members, DPDOs and other functionaries of the PRIs from every district numbering more than 250 participated in the day-long webinar. Addressing the participants, Minister Panchayati Raj, Rural Development, Home etc. Bamang Felix while highlighting the role and responsibilities of the panchayat leaders in spreading awareness on COVID Appropriate Behaviour, urged them to stick to the commitment of making the state COVID-free. Exhorting the panchayat leaders and government officers to work together on a war footing in their respective areas to make Arunachal Pradesh a Covidshield state within the next 2-3 months, Felix asked the SIRD&PR Director Habung Lampung to prepare a report on the performances of the Zilla Parishads and Gram Panchayats in fighting Covid-19. He further urged the stakeholders to expedite the implementation of all flagship programmes.
The SIRD&PR Director said that with more technical knowledge on COVID-19 related issues, panchayat leaders can help the government machinery in fighting the pandemic and asked them to make a target of motivating at least 25 people within their respective areas to abide by COVID SOPs. He further informed that a similar webinar-based training will be imparted by the SIRD & PR in collaboration with NHM and UNICEF to the Block level panchayat leaders in the next phase. Director, Panchayati Raj Tamune Miso requested the participants to take full advantage of the training and asked the DPDOs to expedite the implementation of government schemes. Situation Analysis of COVID-19 and vaccination in Arunachal Pradesh, COVID Appropriate Behaviour and home isolation and involvement of PRI leaders in prevention of the pandemic were the topics covered in the training.
Resources Persons included experts from UNICEF namely SIO Dr. D. Padung, IEC in-charge Dr. Runi Tassung and Consultant, UNICEF Himakshi Barua. MD, NHM C.R. Khampa and Development Specialist, UNICEF Suresh Parmar also took part in the webinar. SIRD&PR PR
