KHONSA, Mar 5: Projector Director, DRDA Hakresha Kri today inspected the progress of MGNREGA works and the Cluster Farm in Tutnu village in Tirap district which is 46 km away from the headquarters.
Interacting with the beneficiaries, the PD, DRDA suggested them to form a farmers’ executive committee for cluster farming which needs to be registered as an NGO for availing the facilities under Atma Nirbhar Bharat and urged them to complete all MGNREGA works within this month.
Responding to EAC I/c Lazu D.K. Thungdok, he assured that logistics help will be provided to the interested farmers of Tutnu and Sinnu villages under Lazu Circle for cluster farming in future. Handing over the crop seedlings to the beneficiaries,  District Agriculture Officer Pangnye Khoisia briefed about  the alternate options to replace Jhum cultivation and informed that although the state government has been sanctioning funds for scientific land terracing to discourage the old cultivation system, it is too meagre to cover all villages. Apart from land terracing, the alternatives to shifting cultivation can be horticultural plantations viz. fruits, spices, vegetables, dairy farming and fishery, the DAO added. The EAC while informing that a similar cluster framing initiative is being taken up in Sinnu village, assured to render all-possible help to the farming community from District Administration’s end.
