PASIGHAT, Aug 8: The North East Institute of Science and Technology, Jorhat Assam and College of Horticulture & Forestry, Central Agricultural University, Pasighat jointly organized a training programme on importance of aromatic crops for Arunachal Pradesh under ‘CSIR Aroma Mission’ at Runne village at the outskirts of Pasighat today.
Gracing the occasion as Chief Guest, Dean, College of Horticulture & Forestry, CAU Pasighat, Professor B. N. Hazarika gave impetus on cultivation of aromatic plants along with other crops in an integrated manner for enhancing the income of farmers. Scientist, CSIR- NEIST, Jorhat Dr. Mohan Lal mentioned about cultivation and processing of the high yielding varieties of aromatic plants developed by his institute such as Jor Lab-C5 of Citronella, Jor Lab-L8 of Lemon Grass & Jor Lab- P1 of Patouchli. Resource Person from CHF, Dr. T. S. Mehra suggested farmers to replace the old varieties of Citronella, Lemon Grass and Patchouli with new improved varieties to boost their returns.
During the interactive session Kaling Taloh, Tapang Tamuk, Oyar Moyong and Takali Tamuk representing the farmers disclosed that they are ready to take up cultivation of highly remunerative low input aromatic crops, informed CHF Pasighat in a release this evening.
