ITANAGAR, Jun 1: With Covid vaccination for the 18-44 year age group kicking off today in the Itanagar Capital Region on the first day of the extended lockdown, Deputy Commissioner Talo Potom has appealed to the denizens to come forward and get themselves vaccinated without any hesitation.
The vaccines can be availed either through online registration on CoWin portal or through direct registration at vaccination centres (offline), the DC informed, adding that vaccination for the 45+ beneficiaries will continue as usual in all vaccination centres. While observing the displeasure among various sections of society over the ICR lockdown extension, he reasoned that the period will be devoted for intensive vaccination covering each and every individual that would eventually lead to gradual unlocking of the Capital Complex. Vaccination centres have been increased in numbers for the convenience of people which are Karsinga UPHC, TRIHMS and UPHC Rajan at old Art and Culture building, Itafort UPHC, RKMH, PHC Chimpu, PTC Banderdewa, Tago Memorial Hospital Nirjuli and Borum HWC/ Community Hall, the DC informed.
Accompanied by DMO Dr Mandip Perme, the ICR DC visited all the vaccination centres to make sure the process was going on smoothly. While interacting with the health workers, he took stock of the situation and talked to the beneficiaries and clarified their doubts. 
Highlighting the importance of vaccination, the DC also appealed to everyone to get vaccinated and avoid fake news doing rounds on social media from time to time. 

The DMO briefed about the importance of vaccination highlighting that a wider coverage of population through vaccination will result in community protection, reducing the likelihood of transmission of the virus. Many denizens running business establishments including shopkeepers/owners/employees were vaccinated today with the cooperation from the APCC&I and Market Welfare Associations.
A total of 1786 in the age group of 18-44 years and 297 people in the age group of 45 years and above were vaccinated on the day taking the total to 2083. Since the start of vaccination on January 16 last, in the ICR a total of 43,299 have been vaccinated till today, out of which 35,661 have been administered with the 1st dose and 7,638 with the second dose.
