ITANAGAR, Dec 21: As the state goes to polls on Tuesday for choosing the representatives for its Panchayat and Municipal bodies, Governor Brig. (Dr.) B.D. Mishra (Retd.) today while reminding the significance of each and every vote, appealed to the state’s voters to exercise their franchise.
Panchayati Raj Institutions and Municipal councils ensure people’s participation and involvement in formulation and implementation of developmental programmes at grassroots level, the Governor said, adding that the provision of one-third reservation of seats for women in PRIs is a big leap forward for women’s empowerment. Underscoring the democratic significance of every single vote in the country which is the world’s largest democracy, he said besides being the constitutional right, casting votes is also a moral, social and national responsibility of the electorate.
The Governor impressed upon all the officers assigned with election duties to act with diligence, impartiality and transparency.
