ITANAGAR, Nov 11: Dr Mohesh Chai, Minister of Agriculture, Animal Husbandry, etc. inaugurated “Essential Oil Distillation Unit” (500 kg capacity/batch) installed at the CSIR-North East Institute of Science & Technology Jorhat Branch, Itanagar premises.
The unit will help to extract citronella and lemongrass oils which can be sold in the market. This is a low cost plant designed for the benefit of marginal farmers.
Dr. Chai suggested to the farmers to come forward and take advantage of the facility.
The institute also organized training on “Cultivation and processing of Aromatic Plant” under the CSIR-AROMA MISSION. It is well known that Arunachal Pradesh is a store house of medicinal and aromatic plants and a hot biodiversity spot in the world due to its different agro-climatic conditions and geographical location.
About 100 people from different parts of the state attended the day long programme.
Dr Joram Begi, Chief Information Commissioner attended the programme as guest of honour.
Dr P. Sengupta, Director In Charge, CSIR-NEIST Jorhat welcomed the gathering and presented an overview of the institute.
