Itanagar, Sep 15: The 55th Engineers Day was celebrated at the Golden Jubilee Banquet Hall today with the theme, ‘Smart Engineering for a Better World’.
In-charge chief secretary Dr Sharat Chauhan while addressing the gathering urged the engineers fraternity to 'remain cognizant of the room for further improvement and greater effort required to match the aspirations and expectations of  society.'
With the arrival of modern developments such as telecom and internet connectivity, air, rail and others, the role of engineers has expanded from the basic needs of ‘bijli, sadak and pani’. Engineers need to be better informed and innovative in devising cost effective local solutions to local problems with the view to improve affordability, accessibility and equity, he said. Connect globally yet act locally, he added.
Dr. Chauhan also conveyed appreciation to the engineers on behalf of the Government of Arunachal Pradesh for their dedicated work and contribution to the continued development of the state.
"In the context of Arunachal Pradesh, where we have to battle the adverse conditions of mountainous terrain and geology, forest and rivers and the frequent communication disruptions due to inclement weather conditions for a substantial part of the year, the work that you do is all the more challenging and noteworthy," he said.
He called for a holistic development for not only the state but the Nation as a whole. The nation and the state are marching ahead in all fields and we have to work together to add 'Gati and Shakti' to this march to fulfil the expectations of not only our aspirational citizens but also the world. I am sure there is no problem or equation we will leave unsolved in this quest, he concluded.
Dr. Chauhan also paid homage to Bharat Ratna Mokshagundam Visvesvaraya ji for his innumerable contributions in the field of engineering, education and innovation on the occasion of Engineers Day.
