TEZU, Aug 4:Under Ujala Yojana (Ujjwal Jeevan by Affordable LED Appliances), a flagship programme of the Govt. of India, Energy Efficient LED Bulbs, Tubelight and Ceiling fans are being distributed to needy consumers through APEDA at Tezu, Lohit district.

The programme was launched in the state at Itanagar by  Chief Minister Pema Khandu on July 17 last.

Under the programme, 25000 LED bulbs, 10000 tube lights and 3000 energy efficient (5-star rating) ceiling fans have been allotted for Lohit district.

The scheme mainly aims at providing LED appliances at affordable rates to consumers, since these items are quite costly in the open market, said Er. N. Tangha, Deputy Director, APEDA, Tezu Division. Since, these electrical appliances are energy efficient, they consume lesser power compared to conventional appliances such as incandescent bulbs, tube lights or CFLs, he added. This would result in substantial energy saving and as a result electric bills of consumers would also be reduced, Tangha added.

Since these appliances are energy efficient, their use will lead to conservation of energy, which would reduce load shedding hours during the peak load period, he added.

The office of the Deputy Director, has been witnessing heavy rush of customers to buy the items since day one.

‘To avoid misuse of the appliances and to check multiple issue to same customers, we are taking xeroxed copies of latest electricity bill and Aadhaar card from consumers, Project Officer Er. AK Rana informed.
