Wakro, Dec 15: A Keeled Box Turtle (Cuora Mouhotti) which is of an endangered species was rescued and released to its natural habitat by the Kamlang Tiger Reserve and Wildlife Sanctuary, Wakro with community participation.
Under the directions of Cheshta Singh, IFS, DFO of Kamlang Tiger Reserve and Wildlife Sanctuary, Wakro the turtle was rescued and kept under observation before being released into the forest. Cheshta took a conscious decision to let school children participate with the forest team in the rescue initiative and so the Apnes of the Apna Vidya Bhavan were invited to accompany the forest team to the Kamlang Wildlife sanctuary.
The DFO appreciated the community participation for conservation effort and said that such active participation and good community support will strengthen conservation and protection of the precious wildlife. She also instructed the forest team to photograph and videograph the rescue effort so that the documentation can be used for future awareness programmes on wildlife conservation and protection.
