Itanagar, Oct 22: Green Skill Development Programme (GSDP) on 'Pollution Monitor: Air & Water', which is a flagship initiative of the Union Ministry of Environment, Forest & Climate Change (MoEF&CC) commenced today here at the Art of Living Centre being conducted by Arunachal ENVIS Hub, Department of Environment & Forests, GoAP.
The programme will be a certificate course on the above topic with a total duration of 260 hours and aimed at initiating skill development in environment and forest sectors to enable the state’s youths to get gainful employment and/or become self-employed. Deputy Director (Env.) & ENVIS Coordinator, D. Dohu Robin stressed that Green Skills will contribute in preserving or restoring environmental quality for sustainable future and create jobs that would deal with protecting ecosystems and biodiversity, reduce energy and minimize waste & pollution. He added that Resource Persons from eminent institutions will be called from outside the state for lecture/class/lab works during the course and it is expected that at the end of training employment avenues will be thrown open for the participants through jobs such as collection of samples and their analysis to be used by various government and other agencies like SPCB. Elaborating on course details, he said that candidates successfully completing the course would be certified as “Pollution Monitors” and thus become employable in Central Pollution Control Board (CPCB), State Pollution Control Board (SPCB), Municipal Corporations, involve in EIA & Eco-Auditing tasks and other projects & surveys under GRIDSS programme of the ENVIS Scheme and any such activity requiring environment data sampling analysis. Further, selected applicants shall be accommodated free of cost under the guidance and supervision from the state’s ENVIS Hub with support from MoEF& CC, GoI, he said. Chairman, Arunachal Pradesh State Pollution Control Board (APSPCB), A.K Shukla, IFS (Retd.) while highlighting the importance of the training, stressed that the training course is very important and can act as a suitable qualification for getting employed for which it is necessary to always remain up to date. Associate Professor, Environmental Engineering, Department of Civil Engineering, NERIST, Dr. Ajay Bharti informed that that there are urgent needs of skilled personnel in the environment sector which will serve as Green Skilled Workforce and the skilled persons could be able to get jobs in several institutions under MoEF & CC/ Biodiversity Management Committees, besides   ample scope for self-employment. After completion of the programme, these skilled persons can further train the youths across the country, he added. Assistant Professor, EE, Deptt. of Civil Engineering, NERIST Y. Bidya Laxmi Devi spoke on how water, air, and soil are interconnected with each other in the ecosystem and overall global environmental changes and challenges.  

MoEF&CC is utilizing its vast network backed by the expertise of ENVIS Hubs/RPs and has taken up this initiative for skill development in environment and forest sectors.
