Ziro, Nov 29: A coordination meeting for the smooth conduct of the forthcoming Panchayat Election 2025 was held at the Golden Jubilee Conference Hall, District Secretariat, Ziro today. The meeting was chaired by Election Observer Pagli Sora and attended by Deputy Commissioner–cum–DEO Oli Perme, DPDO Hage Tarung, Superintendent of Police Keni Bagra, all Returning Officers, Presidents/General Secretaries of political parties and contesting candidates.
Welcoming the gathering, DEO Oli Perme expressed happiness that a majority of the ZPM seats are uncontested this time (10 out of 14 ZPCs), reflecting a positive and cooperative democratic environment. She appealed to all stakeholders to uphold peace and tranquillity during the upcoming election.
DPDO Hage Tarung briefed the house in detail about the Model Code of Conduct (MCC) and urged all contesting candidates and political party representatives to strictly follow the guidelines issued by the State Election Commission.
Superintendent of Police Keni Bagra highlighted the security arrangements and requested all contesting candidates to thoroughly go through the MCC. He further reminded that firearms must be deposited within the stipulated time to avoid cancellation of licences. He conveyed best wishes and expressed hope for a peaceful and disciplined election.
Election Observer Pagli Sora, representing the State Election Commission, emphasised that the Observer functions as the “eyes and ears” of the Commission. Describing elections as the festival of democracy, He urged candidates to follow the MCC, guide their party workers to maintain peace and ensure compliance with expenditure ceiling limits and proper maintenance of accounts to avoid legal implications. He reassured that her contact details are already publicly displayed and encouraged everyone to reach out anytime for matters related to free and fair elections.
The interaction session saw active participation from all candidates, making it a healthy and constructive meeting where doubts were clarified and suggestions were welcomed.
The District Administration reiterated its commitment to conducting the Panchayat Election 2025 in a peaceful, transparent and inclusive manner and extended best wishes to all contesting candidates.
