ITANAGAR, Apr 16: Stipend for students will be disbursed by May next, said Education Minister Taba Tedir today while responding to query by reporters here at his office chamber.
The Minister disclosed that during the academic session 2020-21, total 16374 of eligible applications were received for the National Scholarship Scheme for which an amount of Rs 26.85 crore is required to release the stipend. The file has been submitted to the state government and Education department will release the stipend by May next in the respective bank accounts through public financial management system (PFMS).
"The hearsay about not releasing of fund is wrong, Department has never said that it will hold the stipend of students," said the Minister.
On stipend for schools including DIET students, Tedir said "Director of School (Elementry & Secondary) Education has released an amount of Rs 8.9 Crore being the stipend for 2 months (February & March). Rest of the amount will be released by the state government in a phase manner as per guidelines for stipend."
While speaking on Post Matric scholarship under the Ministry of Tribal Affairs, GoI, the Minister informed that the directorate has received 31916 applications against the scheme through NPS and a total of Rs 90.20 crore is required for the payment (90 % Central share and 10 % State share).
"Ministry has so far released the first instalment of Rs 18 . 45 crore only during financial year 2020-21. An amount of Rs 63 crore of central share is yet to be released by the Ministry. On receiving the remaining funds, the same will be released by the state government through DBT," informed Education Minister Taba Tedir.
