ITANAGAR, Feb 16: Education Minister Taba Tedir while expressing concern over illegal encroachment here at the Rajiv Gandhi Government Polytechnic (RGGP) has appealed all encroachers to voluntarily surrender the land.
Tedir made the appeal on Sunday while attending the annual festivities of RGGP known as REILA (Recreation, Entertainment and Information & Literary Activities). “Government will look into the issue but I urge the people who have encroached the land belonging to the institute to surrender them. RGGP is an asset for the state and the land is needed for future expansion,” he said. 
The Minister further appealed the students to look forward to contribute to society, state and country. 
While responding to the memorandum submitted by General Secretary of the students’ union of RGGP Lishi Paki, he assured to take them in a phase-wise manner with special emphasis on improving the institute’s sports infrastructure. The main demands included upgradation of RGGP to a degree engineering college, repairing and maintenance of boundary wall, construction of water storage tank of 1 lakh litre capacity, starting of smart classrooms and repairing of the old boys and girls hostels. He also commended the RGGP for getting accreditation from the prestigious National Board of Accreditation (NBA). Later, the Education Minister visited the classrooms, library and other facilities.
Vice Chancellor of Arunodaya University VN Sharma while attending the REILA urged the students to work hard to get success in life. Principal, RGGP Dr AK Tripathy highlighted the various achievements and problems affecting the institute and while mentioning the problems of encroachment and trespassing, appealed the Minister to look into the matter seriously. Students’ Proctor Nyari Techi also spoke on the occasion.
