PASIGHAT, Apr 4: To mitigate the woes of all the eleven migrant labourers currently stranded in the district due to the lockdown, East Siang District Administration has converted the 'Siskshak Sadan' in to a relief camp to ensure them food and shelter.
Deputy Commissioner Dr. Kinny Singh along with the DDMO and other officers while inspecting the preparedness before shifting the labourers, instructed the entrusted Relief Officer to take care of the migrant labourers and provide them food, shelter and medicine. According to official sources, till date, eighty stranded labourers, students and daily wage earners have been provided with ration by the District Administration. Six such labourers who were working in Siluk under Mebo Sub-Division and five others working in Suple village under neighbouring Siang district were brought to the Pasighat relief camp on Saturday by the administrative officers and police.
The labourers were desperate to reach their home towns in adjoining Assam raising concerns that the Covid-19 outbreak could turn into a humanitarian crisis. DC asserted that officers are doing their best to contain the spread of the virus. “Bordering Ruksin has been sealed off and restricted for all kinds of movement but the area has vast forest areas and is also porous. The said checkgate is under constant vigil and any chance of escape by anyone is less,” DC added and asked the media fraternity to verify such issues and include administration’s comments too while filing any report on escape or trespassing.

Issuing an order vide Order No. J-4311(Part-II)/2013, Dtd. 04/04/2020, DC has directed all the sectors/villages under Pasighat Sadar to dismantle all temporary erected gates and allow movement of essential services with immediate effect to ensure free movement of  ambulances, milk vans, fire tenders, ration/grocery, delivery services, PMC related works and essential pass holders etc.
Meanwhile, in order to ensure complete lockdown of the waterway till April 14, Namsing Circle Officer Khoda Lasa carried out an extensive checking drive over Taro-Tamak riverway up to the Assam border and seized 14 boats, both canoe and motor operated. The forest authority had also been instructed to set up camp in the Siang-Taro Tamak junction area to prevent any boat movement towards Namsing from Dhola, Tinsukia, Dibrugarh via the waterway.
The roadway from Ngopok to Taro Tamak Ghat is also under complete lockdown. CO informed that the drive will continue till April 14. DIPRO
