PASIGHAT, Sep 8: Joining the rest of the nation in taking poshan abhiyaan to address nutritional deficiencies, East Siang Deputy Commissioner Dr. Kinny Singh on Monday launched the ceremonial beginning of Poshan Maah (Poshan Month) at a function, held at the Town Club, Pasighat, organized by the Women and Child Development department with the theme Tracing and Identification of Children with (Severely Acute Malnourished and Promote Nutri-Garden.
After lighting of Poshan Diya, Dr. Singh presented Poshan Basket to the beneficiaries and administered the Poshan Oath’. In her inaugural address, Singh stated that the Poshan Abhiyaan is the Prime Minister Narendra Modis overarching scheme for holistic nourishment and an important mission for improving the nutritional status of intended target groups of pregnant and lactating women and children of 0-6 yrs. It has been launched to emphasize the need for healthy nutrition and should be the one liner objective to generate awareness about this mission to involve more and more people so that no targeted group is left behind. Special emphasis should be given to make up the nutritional deficiency and reduce low birth weight, especially in the rural areas of the district. The DC also exhorted the need for coordination, convergence and cordiality among all the stake holders, transforming Poshan Abhiyaan into a Jana Andolan so that no targeted group is deprived of essential nutrition.
Earlier in her keynote address, Deputy Director (ICDS) W&CD, Machi Gao threw light on Poshan Abhiyaan. According to Gao, it was a set target for the prevention and reduction of disorders caused by malnutrition and also the importance of spreading the awareness for the wholesome care and good nutrition for the first 1000 crucial days of 0-6 yrs children and pregnant mothers.
The launching program was attended by the CDPOs, supervisors, pregnant and lactating women and Angan-Wadi Workers. DDSE J Yirang, DRCHO Dr. T Gao, CDPO Ruksin and Pasighat M. Taloh and Onyok Panyang respectively also spoke on the occasion. DIPRO
