ITANAGAR, Sep 28: The East Siang Fish Farmers Welfare Association (ESFFWA) has urged the state government to release the funds under Mukhya Mantri Neel Kranti Abhiyan (MMNKA) for East Siang district by next 20 days failing which the association has threatened to resort to democratic movement.
Addressing a press conference at the Press Club here on Tuesday, Spokesperson ESFFWA Ratul Tamut said, the beneficiaries who had already invested their entire savings in the government project under MMNKA with an assurance from the government that fund will be released after completion of the project are being deprived till date.
Due to the non-release of the fund, Fish farmers are under huge financial burden as their pending bills have not been released despite repeated pleas and passing of three financial years after successful completion of the work, added Tamut. He informed that as per the directives of the State Directorate of Fisheries, around 21 listed beneficiaries of Fish Farmers of East Siang district have successfully completed the project and submitted the report to the concerned District Fisheries Development Officer (DFDO). The project was to construct a new fish pond of intensive aquaculture under MMNKA in the financial year 2019-20.
“When inquired about the fund, DFDO claimed that no fund was released from the Department, but when team ESFFWA reached the state office it had a different story. As per the Department, they already have released funds amounting to Rs. 66 lakhs as the first installment to DFDO, Pasighat but due to non-disbursement of the fund on time it was returned back (lapses) as per the norms of the scheme."
There is no fault of fish farmers who have invested on assurance of the government and also submitted all the reports on time. Therefore, EKFFWA urges the state government to release the funds for both the installment within the next twenty days, said the Spokesperson.
