PASIGHAT, Jul 22: With vector borne diseases showing trends of rise in East Siang district, Health department is working hard to control JE, malaria, dengue etc.
Headed by DMO Dr. Kaling Dai, a team of doctors and officials are carrying out source reduction activities followed by awareness campaigns, fogging and indoor residual spray etc. Residents have been advised to use mosquito repellents, wear long-sleeved clothes, use mosquito nets and get rid of places where mosquitoes can breed like tyres and flower pots etc that collect rainwater.
DC cum DM Dr. Kinny Singh has directed the concerned authorities to undertake capacity building and intensified awareness campaigns along with massive cleanliness drive across the district with stress on fogging. To prevent outbreak of Japanese Encephalitis, the DM issuing a prohibitory order u/s 133(B) of Cr. PC has banned import of pigs and ducks from outside the state where the disease is known to be prevalent. Reportedly on Monday, an auto rickshaw coming towards Pasighat carrying piglets was stopped and turned back to Jonai in Assam.
Meanwhile, East Siang District Veterinary Officer Dr. T. Taggu has entrusted the SVO to strictly monitor and ensure that pigs, piglets and all kinds of poultry birds are not imported to Pasighat township from outside, until further order. DIPRO
