PASIGHAT, Jun 18: Alertness of the Covid Warriors team of East Siang district that included members of the All Bogong Students’ Union (ABSU) on Tuesday evening led to the interception of a car near Raneghat check gate that was carrying 54 hunted birds and nabbing of two habitual bird hunters.
ABSU General Secretary Siang Moyong and the Covid warriors led by Manning Moyong informed that they came across the killed birds during routine checking of vehicles. The incident was promptly reported to the Divisional Forest Officer, Pasighat Forest Division Tashi Mize who rushed to the spot and seized the guns, cartridges and killed birds. “The place of occurrence is under Yingkiong Forest Division and the bird hunters were booked as per Wildlife Protection Act 1972. A complaint letter has been processed to the Chief Judicial Magistrate for justice,” the DRO informed. When contacted, Rengging village Gaon Burah Tamak Tamuk informed that they had nabbed the duo earlier who originally hail from Upper Siang district along with imposition of Rs 50000 fine by the Rengging village Kebang and warning not to repeat the illegalities.
As part of the village-level conservation efforts, hunting of birds and animals in Bitlong area of the village has been banned.
