PASIGHAT, Jul 22: The East Siang Christian Forum (ESCF) on Tuesday last visited the ongoing alternative road construction site near Rottung village where the Pasighat-Pangin road was damaged recently and handed over ration items to the workers.
Led by its President Taring Tabi, Secretary General Maktil Apu, executive members and advisers, the ESCF handed over edible items like potatoes, juices, tea leaves, sugar and 40 LED torch lights to the departmental staff and locals monitoring the road project. The team was joined by the members of the district unit of Bogum Bokang Kebang, its President Tadi Taying, Convenor John Panyang, ABK Women Wing (apex) GS Opak Takuk Ering and others. They reached out to the actual road construction site covering around 2 km through deep forests in the uphill. A prayer session was also arranged led by Dr. Rev. Takeng Taggu and Rev. John St. Borang.
While interacting with a local road monitoring team it came to light that the present road diversion site is a British-era footpath track constructed some 110 years ago during 1911-12 for the administrative convenience of Abor Hills. As a proof of the claim, a stone plaque inscribing the year of construction can still be found at the site.
