PASIGHAT, Jul 25: The 12 hours East Siang bandh called by Pasighat Peoples’ Welfare Committee (PPWC) here today against the power departments’ failure to restore electricity supply passed off peacefully.

The offices, educational institutions, financial institutions etc recorded thin attendance, while vehicles also remained off the road with bandh callers forcing plying vehicles to get off the road.

Despite the district administration declaring the bandh illegal and appeal to all concern to defy the bandh and attend normal offices, people remained indoors and supported the bandh, informed PPWC sources this evening.

In a statement, PPWC Chairman, Okom Yosung has said that if government fails to keep the assurances given recently within 5 days, the next phase of intensive bandh will be called in the first week of August. It is also learnt from PPWC sources that, the committee is also in the process to file a PIL against the concern and responsible power department’s alleged misuse of fund in the 132kv line while compromising with time and quality.

Meanwhile PPWC Chief Coordinator has expressed thankfulness to all organizations and individuals including councilors for supporting the bandh.
