SEPPA, Dec 27: The 10-day Basic Cum Refresher Course on Paragliding organized by the Arunachal Pradesh Society for Education & Development (APSED) with the support from the Department of Tourism concluded at Lumdung (Papu Valley) paragliding site in East Kameng district.
The closing function was graced by Chairman EKSWCO Dahey Sangno and District Tourism Officer Taluk Sonam as Chief Guest & Guest of Honour respectively.
In his address, President of APSED cum Paragliding Association of Arunachal, Vijay Sonam said that the course is being organized for skill development of youths besides promoting adventure tourism activity in Itanagar-Seppa and Itanagar-Ziro tourist circuits, adding that youths can generate income as well employment can be boosted by organizing paragliding events.
“A total of 5 girls and 6 boys underwent intermediate level basic cum refresher course at Lumdung from December 15 and 1 girl and 7 boys who were sent to Bir Billing (Himachal Pradesh) for the advance course are also honing their flying skills,” he informed.
Chairman EKSWCO congratulated Vijay Sonam and his organisation for bringing Lumdung on the paragliding map of the world. It is heartening to know that he has under his leadership the most numbers of female paragliding pilots in the country, he said and hoped that paragliding would promote tourism in East Kameng and create employment opportunities for the district’s youths in coming days. “EKSWCO is also working hard to unearth the potential of East Kameng and to make it a hub of adventure tourism,” he added.
Later, the pilots demonstrated their flying skills, comprising both take-off and landing much to the delight of the gathering. EKSWCO team led by the Chairman enjoyed a ride with the local pilots Kulu Liyak and Phurba Naksang. Alisha Khonjuju had the highest and longest flight.
