Itanagar, May 30: The devastating flood which swept capital’s Chandanagar area due to the discharge of huge volume of water from the Yagamso Nallah in early Saturday morning has rendered 99 families homeless.
Former IMC Councillor Gora Tallang informed that at around 4.30 am Yagamso Nallah discharged huge volume of water due to the heavy downpour and blockade near an under-construction culvert on NH-415 in Chandanagar. “River water entered through a gap between the culvert and boundary wall in the colony behind the Green Mount School and submerged the whole colony while most residents were asleep,” Tallang said.
Clothes, food items, books, electronic items and other essentials stocked for the lockdown were completely damaged. “We earnestly request the state government and capital administration to help the distressed people,” he appealed.
Hearing the mishap, local MLA Techi Kaso along with Capital Additional Deputy Commissioner Talom Dupok rushed to the spot and met the victims. Kaso requested the ADC and DDMO I/c Tem Kaya to immediately assess the loss and provide necessary relief to the victims and appealed the administration to arrange relief camps if necessary.
The MLA also provided food and ration items to the victims which included 10 quintals of rice, 1 quintal of pulses, 50 litres mustard oil etc.
