BOMDILA, Jul 13: The District Urban Development Agency (DUDA), West Kameng today in its governing body meeting here at the DC’s conference hall discussed the issue of garbage management in Bomdila township.
Deputy Commissioner-cum-Chairman, DUDA Karma Leki chaired the meeting. DUDA Executive Engineer Takar Tachang while deliberating on the issue said that migration of rural population towards urban locations and access to plastic items is one of the major causes behind the rapid increase of garbage waste in the township. Each day the department collects 7 tones of solid waste, but due to lack of manpower and financial support for maintenance of garbage collection trucks and fuel expenses etc., the problem is persisting, he informed. The DC-cum-DUDA Chairman informed that civic charges will henceforth be recovered from the citizens to keep Bomdila clean. The said nominal charges which as of now were recovered only from the government employees through direct deduction from their salaries will have to be paid by the citizens and commercial establishments from now onwards. The UD department was also instructed to constitute a committee under chairmanship of ADC headquarter Sang Khandu to identify the toilets constructed without septic tank within the township area.
DMO R N Tongchi, HoDs, Bazar Secretary, NGOs, PRI leaders and citizens of the township attended the meeting. DIPRO
