ITANAGAR, Oct 10: In a major breakthrough against drug menace, the Banderdewa Police on Wednesday night arrested two suspected drug peddlers and seized heroin worth several lakhs of rupees during a late-night operation at the Banderdewa market area.
Police informed that at around 10:40 PM, a reliable tip-off was received indicating that some individuals were in possession of narcotic drugs suspected to be heroin and were attempting to transport them through the market area. Acting swiftly on the intelligence, a police team led by Inspector Kipa Hamak, assisted by SI Koj Tada, Head Constable Tade Bomdom, Constable Rinchin Tsering, and Constable Udipta Gogoi, immediately swung into action. The operation was carried out under the close supervision of Dr. Nyelam Nega, SP Naharlagun.
The team successfully laid a trap and intercepted the suspects at the market. Upon thorough search, the police recovered four soap cases containing a substance suspected to be heroin, weighing a total of 50.03 grams. The contraband was seized on the spot, and the two accused were taken into custody. The accused have been identified as Samir Ali, 21,  resident of Sonapur No. 1, Bangalmara, under Bihpuria Police Station in Lakhimpur District, Assam, and Saddam Hussain, 30, resident of Birat Bazar, Chatian, under Juria Police Station in Nagaon District, Assam.
Following the seizure, a case has been registered at Banderdewa Police Station vide Case No. 70/25 under Section 21(b) of the NDPS Act read with Section 3(5) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS). Police have launched further investigation to identify the source of the contraband and trace the wider supply network involved in the trafficking,stated a release
