Yupia, Oct 29: The draw of lots for women reservation in the Zilla Parishad, Gram Panchayat Member (GPM), and Gram Panchayat Chairperson (GPC) segments was conducted today at the DC Conference Hall, Yupia. The process was carried out under the supervision of I/C District Election Officer (PR) Tame Yajum, ADC and Dr.Dana Unna, Assistant Commissioner ( PR)
As per the outcome of the draw, 5 out of 16 Zilla Parishad Member (ZPM) segments, 32 out of 98 Gram Panchayat Chairperson (GPC) segments, and 127 out of 390 Gram Panchayat Member (GPM) segments have been reserved for women candidates.
The Zilla Parishad segments reserved for women are Kimin, Gumto, Doimukh, Borum, and Bath Ganga.
The draw of lots was witnessed by representatives from various political parties, along with local legislators — 13-Itanagar MLA Techi Kaso and 14-Doimukh MLA Nabam Vivek and ZPC Smt. Nabam Yakum— who attended the event.
The smooth conduct of the draw marks an important step toward ensuring equitable representation of women in the upcoming Panchayati Raj Institution (PRI) elections.
