Aalo, Jun 24: Doctors here at the General Hospital on Tuesday performed a rare and extremely critical ocular procedure, the kind of which is normally found to be carried out only at premier eye specialty hospitals in the country.
An angling hook which was accidentally stuck in the right eye of a nine-year old boy was successfully removed which saved his vision.
Initially the hook could not be removed at the Eye OPD due to non-cooperation by the patient. On receiving a call from the hospital’s eye department, Dr T. Paser immediately asked them to shift the patient to General Operation Theatre where he was given general anaesthesia, after which Eye Specialist Dr. Hage Manya removed the hook.
Dr. Manya disclosed that the boy had every chance of losing vision in the affected eye as the injury was intense involving the lens and retina.
The doctors said that many people are still unaware of such facilities provided at the General Hospital. DIPRO
