ITANAGAR, Jul 18:
The 5th edition of Dorjee Khandu Memorial State Open Badminton Championship-2017 which was scheduled to be held from August 2 to 6 next at the state capital here has been postponed by a week’s time. The tournament would now be held from August 9 to 12 next.
This was on Tuesday informed by Arunachal State Badminton Association (ASBA), joint secretary (tournament) Nich Bapu, who cited that the reason to defer the tournament was due to the Badminton Association of India (BAI) changing its tournament calendar event.
Accordingly the last date of entry has also been rescheduled to July 29 instead of 28 and the date for withdrawal of entry is August 1.
The games of the coveted badminton championship which will be held in five categories – under-10, under-13, under-15, under-17, under-19 and open for boys and girls would be played out at the Raj Bhawan and MLA cottage badminton courts.
Meanwhile, keeping in view the ever growing enthusiasm for badminton amongst the people of state, the ASBA is all set to organize a “Badminton Umpire Clinic cum Examination’ (State Grade-II) for those who are interested in being an adjudicator of the sport.
The association has appealed all its district units to send at least one representative for the said examination which would be held from August 7 to 9 next.
