ITANAGAR, May 28: With the aim of smooth implementation of Rota Virus Vaccination programme in the state, the respective district authorities have started their preparations through training workshops and meetings.
In East Siang district, a district level workshop was held today under the chairmanship of Deputy Commissioner Dr. Kinny Singh at Siang Hall in Pasighat. DC Singh informed that government has decided to introduce Rota Virus Vaccine (RVV) as it is considered most effective in preventing the severe and life-threatening cases of Rotavirus diarrhoea. She reminded that the first 5 drops of Rotavirus vaccine have to be administered to a child before attaining one-year of age while the two subsequent drops must be administered within the next 6th, 10th and 14th weeks.
Urging the health officials to ensure success of the vaccination drive to bring down child mortality rate in the state as a whole, DC also appealed the people especially the pregnant women to avail the benefit of the PLUS Project which has been innovatively designed to reduce infant and maternal mortality rates.
Among others, DMO Dr. Kaling Dai, MS Dr. YR Darang, DDSE, DD (ICDS) and MO In-charge of PHCs, CHCs were present in the training. DMO Dr. K. Dai shared his views and DRCHO Dr. T. Gao imparted the training through PPT.
Meanwhile, in Ziro a meeting involving the District Task Force for Immunization(DTFI) and members of Adverse Events Following Immunization(AEFI) was held today in the office chamber of the Deputy Commissioner to discuss plans for making Rota Virus Vaccination programmesuccessful in Lower Subansiri district. EAC Tame Yajum while stressing on the need for concerted efforts from all stakeholders to make the immunization programme successful, also emphasised on elaborate sensitization of frontline workers like ASHAs and Anganwadi workers.
DFWO Dr.Derin Likar gave a Power Point Presentation on the genesis of Rota Virus Vaccine (RVV ) and preparatory activities conducted so far in the district for its introduction on June 15 next. He informed that all health facilities in the district have submitted their RI micro-plans after house-to-house survey and head counts of infants and pregnant women.
As per the district plan, 381 pregnant women and 525 children between 0-1 year of age will be vaccinated against RVV. DMO Dr.Tage Kano was also present in the meeting. DIPRO inputs
