PASIGHAT, Apr 3: In yet another warning to the particular section(s) of the state’s police personnel who have fallen prey to the vice of drug addiction, Chief Minister Pema Khandu today asked them to voluntarily come forward and seek rehab facilities within a stipulated time frame.
Khandu made it clear that failure to do so will compel the Police Department to initiate a blanket drug testing for all personnel and those found addicted will have to lose his/her job. The Chief Minister issued the caveat while addressing a gathering here at the JNC College. “Drug abuse is one of the major challenges in society and youths are falling prey to it. We have to take strong steps to fight the menace and act unitedly,” he said. I have issued a clear-cut direction to both the Home Minister and the Director General of Police to terminate and put behind bars those men in uniform found involved in drug peddling and addiction, the CM added. Appreciating the NGOs like Women Against Social Evil (WASE) of Pasighat for their fight against drugs, Khandu assured that the Drug Addiction Centre will be provided with required assistance for its proper functioning.
I have already written to the Commissioner Planning to take required measures with consultation with the Deputy Commissioner, East Siang, the CM informed.
