PASIGHAT/DAMBUK, Apr 14: The Dibang Hydropower Project Downstream Area Affected Committee (DHPDAAC) comprising members from both Lower Dibang Valley and East Siang District on Friday held a meeting at Dambuk under the Chairmanship of Gotem Tayeng, Chairman of DHPDAAC.
The meeting was in continuation of its previous 5th general meeting cum awareness programme that was held at Borguli village under Lower Mebo here in East Siang district on 24th March last wherein the Committee supported the construction of Dibang multipurpose hydropower dam of 2880 MW to be constructed by NHPC upstream near the confluence of Ashu Pani/river and Dibang river under Lower Dibang valley district.
Informing the outcome of the meeting, DHPDAAC Chairman, Gotem Tayeng said that the committee will compile a detail project report with the help of experts for construction of guide bund along the banks of Dibang river to prevent yearly flood erosion and to safeguard the downstream areas in case of any future natural and manmade calamities due to the project.
“The report will be then submitted to both NHPC and government for speedy consideration of the project besides demanding 60% job reservation for local youths of the area," Tayeng said.
The aims and objectives of the meeting were presented by Vijay Pertin, General Secretary of DHPDAAC and the next general meeting of the committee will be held at Meka-Kangkong block in Lower Dibang valley, sources informed.
