ITANAGAR, Apr 12: Amid concerns of Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) procured for frontline healthcare workers not being up to the mark, the Directorate of Health Services today dispelled misconceptions assuring that quality has been strictly adhered to.
It is worth noting that after the last incident where there was much hue and cry over poor quality of PPE, the state government had constituted a 6-member board to observe and distribute medical kits.
Speaking to media, Director Health Serve (DHS), M Lego said that people of the state have misconceptions regarding PPE kits.
'We don’t have any authority to certify which is good or poor quality PPE. But there are different levels of PPE categorized according to the risk and need base,' he said.
He stated that from screening to attending serious COVID-19 patients in the ICU needs different categories of PPEs. ‘Due to a pandemic situation, country is facing a shortage of PPEs. Hindustan Latex Limited (HLL) a PSU company is now sending all the PPE kits for the state.'
Joint Director DHS, Emi Rumi informed that PPE is a one time use kit but as of now the state is well prepared for the present situation.
Till 12th April, State has received 2102 HLL PPEs out which 2082 PPEs has been already distributed to districts. Another consignment of 1700 to 2000 is expected to reach the state on Monday or the day after, added the Joint Director. There is proper guideline on who needs to wear, who doesn't and accordingly we have distributed the PPEs of different categories, said Dr Rumi.
While appealing healthcare professionals not to worry about any misinformation about poor quality of PPEs, State Surveillance Officer-IDSP Dr. L Jampa said ‘The provided PPEs from HLL of the different categories is enough to protect from Coronavirus.'
Moreover, we all well prepared and will maintain all the required SOPs to check any kind of outbreak as far as possible, he added.
