PASIGHAT, Oct 15: The people of Tato, the district headquarter of the newly created Shi-Yomi district are in desperate need of basic necessities like regular power supply, mobile networks and proper road connectivity etc.
Narrating their tales of ordeal, the people of Tato alleged that the state government is paying less attention to the township despite the fact it was declared as the district headquarter in 2018. President, Adi Baane Kebang Shi-Yomi district Komi Rida said there is no hospital here and also in Monigong and Pidi Circles, adding that GSS Tato and Monigong are running without subject teachers and other Government Upper Primary and Lower Primary Schools in Yapik, Pongte, Tagur, Tadogitu, Lipo, Pidi, Hirong, Rego, Pangri, Chengo and Hemi are also in defunct conditions. The All Arunachal Pradesh Workers’ Union Shi-Yomi district unit has alleged negligence by local MLA of Mechuka Pasang Dorjee Sona who is also the Speaker of the State Assembly. Narrating their grievances to this scribe, AAPWU Shi-Yomi District President Vijay Rinja said that Tato has no telecommunication connectivity despite a BSNL tower installed by the armed forces. “A press release in the recent past claimed that local MLA Sona had provided telecommunication connection to Tato. But this is false and we are also yet to get regular power supply and all the HoDs need to be stationed at Tato for proper administration of the district which they are not doing,” the AAPWU President said.
Meanwhile, Sona clarified that installation of mobile tower for telecommunication purposes is not a State subject and is dealt by the Centre for which he has written to the Union Minister of Information Technology and Communications, Ravi Shankar Prasad for its early installation. Regarding the regular power supply issue, Sona said that renovation has been done after the government took back the projects from the private parties.
Shi-Yomi being a border district with China needs immediate attention of the State and Central governments not only for larger public interest, but also for strategic reasons. The narrow old road from Siang district’s Kaying town to Tato hardly allows passage for simultaneous crossing of two vehicles, especially army trucks.
The Indian Army and ITBP camps at Tato deployed for security reasons also face the same problem and one of the army officers on condition of anonymity said it will cause a negative impact on the Indian side in case a war breaks out with China
