ITANAGAR, Jun 29: To mark the 16th National Statistics Day commemorating the 129th Birth Anniversary of Professor P.C. Mahalanobis, father of Indian Statistics, the Ministry of Statistics and Programme Implementation (MoSPI) Government of India, organized a virtual program which was joined by the State DES in the morning hours. 
Thereafter, the Directorate of Economics & Statistics also celebrated the day in the state capital to develop awareness on the importance and uses of statistics in the State. In this connection, an Undergraduate level Essay Competition on: “Quality of Education as a force multiplying foundation of Sustainable Development in India” or, “Reframing climate change as a public health issue, a need for more integrative thinking”, keeping in purview the significance of Sustainable Development Goals in the recent years was conducted for which essays were accepted through online submission. The competition received a vibrant participation from all the colleges in the Itanagar Capital Region. 
The above program was immediately followed by an event, where the winners Bagisha Kumari from Binni Yanga Women’s Government College, Rotom Ter from Dera Natung Government College and Linya Bagra from Dera Natung Government College were adjudged the First, Second and Third, carrying cash incentives of Rs 15000, Rs. 10000 and Rs. 5000 respectively with certificates. 
Highlighting the importance of Statistics, for Economic development B Megu, Director Economics and Statistics opined that effectiveness and efficiency are the two parameters for right development. He further added effectiveness means doing right things whereas efficiency means doing the things rightly and what is right can only be assessed through statistical data.
