ITANAGAR, May 8: Minister for Sports & Youth Affairs etc. Mama Natung on Saturday paid floral tributes to the former Education Minister of Arunachal Pradesh, late Dera Natung on his 20th death anniversary here at the Dera Natung Government College (DNGC) premises.
Speaking on the occasion, the S&YA Minister recalled late Natung’s immense contribution in transforming the state's education scenario as the Minister of Education. He was the person instrumental in bringing the Eklavya Model Residential Schools (EMRSs) in the state besides other institutions, he said. “Late Natung had an imperative role in transforming the state’s education sector and ensuring quality education for youths. Therefore, the youths of the state should carry forward his vision by participating in educational reforms and other development activities,” the Minister said. Before entering politics, he was the first President of All Nyishi Students’ Union (ANSU) and having a close association with him, I witnessed his down-to-earth nature, the Minister recounted while terming late Natung as a visionary leader and a pioneer in social activities.
Paying floral tributes, Principal, DNGC Dr MQ Khan said that despite coming from a humble background, the late leader exhibited an exemplary form of commitment, dedication and confidence. This was why he could transform his dreams into reality, he added. “The former Education Minister also was a role model for the state’s youths besides being a social worker and a good human being,” he said.
It was on 8 May 2001, Natung while on a visit to Tawang and East Kameng to survey the sites for educational institutions died in a tragic air crash.
