ITANAGAR, Feb 9: Minister PHE&WSD Wangki Lowang on Monday chaired a review meeting of the Public Health Engineering & Water Supply Department to make an assessment of the going works taken up under Jal Jeevan Mission (JJM) and Swachh Bharat Mission (SBM) Phase-II in the state.

Lowang while stressing on sustainability of water supply systems specially in water-stressed areas highlighted the need for routine Operation & Maintenance of the installed components by the site engineers to ensure uninterrupted supply to the beneficiaries. 

Secretary, PHE&WSD Rinchin Tashi suggested the field engineers to be more analytical in their approach towards JJM and adhere to the guidelines while planning and implementing the projects. Stressing on community involvement, he advised them to undertake more rigorous IEC activities so as to make the JJM a ‘Jan Aandolan’. On 10% funds being allocated to the divisions as performance incentives, he encouraged the field units to make the best use of the opportunity in their respective districts followed by proper audit. 

Important components of the SBM and its updated progress were detailed by Chief Engineer, Sanitation-cum-Mission Director, SBM Er. Sentum Yomcha. Chief Engineer, Eastern Zone-cum-Mission Director, State JJM Er. Tomo Basar presented the progress made under JJM including issues related to community participation vis-a-vis formation of VWSC, preparation of VAP, 5% contribution towards in-village component, taking over of O&M, water quality monitoring and surveillance etc. 

Meanwhile, an interactive training for the field officials of JJM and SBM-II was conducted today. In SBM-II, training was imparted to the Trainers for PRIs and other stakeholders and the JJM part covered the officials who were given Refresher Interactive Training on parameters like Implementation Support Agency (ISA), Water Quality Monitoring and Surveillance (WQMS), Information Education Communication (IEC) and Integrated Management Information System (IMIS).
