PASIGHAT Apr 9:  In another instance of their strong commitment towards the fight against drug and other illicit substance menace from the district, the Women Against Social Evils (WASE) helped police arrest a drug peddler.

Based on discreet information about prevalence of drug peddling in a delivery service centre located at Jarkong, SS Mission Road, the team informed the police and registered a case following which the peddler, one Nanu Yingo hailing from Ruksin area was arrested Vide Pasighat PS Case No. 54/2017 U/S 21(b) NDPS Act.

When contacted, OC Atan Taki confirmed the arrest and said that, police is investigating other people involved. 2 packets of brown sugar packed in poly pack, 2 small packets of brown sugar wrapped in paper were seized from the possession of the peddler.

While, WASE has appealed police and administration to ban functioning of delivery service and also sought arrest of the entire management as all of them are said to be involved in the racket. The supply is said to be coming from Itanagar and other places and all those unregistered and unlicensed suspected service centers need to be checked and closed down as many illegal business are flourishing from these unregulated centres/shops, said WASE General Secy. Meanwhile, the Adi Baane Kebang Women Wing East Siang Unit has also carried out a drive against Bhang (cannabis), IMFL and carom/playing card gambling on Saturday covering villages like Tekang, Yagrung and Gobo area. The women wing destroyed a marijuana cultivation garden at Gobo area and also destroyed illegal IMFL, informed, ABKWW President, Yalem Taga Burang.
