ITANAGAR, Jul 15: The Kharsang Circle Unemployed Youth Association (KCUYA), Tangsa Youth Association (TYA) and Kharsang Small Scale Industries Association (KSSIA) have hailed the State Government’s decision to revive the Namchick Namphuk Coal Mine.
The organizations said that the revival of the mine will directly and indirectly help to boost the socio economic status of the local people and also contribute to revenue generation.
“Opening of mining activities will bring job opportunities to the local unemployed youths of the area and boost the socio economic status of the people. We firmly believe in the principle of sustainable development. Therefore, while supporting the revival of the mine, all necessary steps and environmental guidelines must be followed by the project execution party to maintain the quality of the environment,” it said.
Meanwhile, the All Arunachal Anti Corruption Sena (AACS) expressed reservation over the government’s decision and has submitted representation submitted to the Chief Minister, seeking withdrawal of the decision citing potential security threat once coal mining is resumed.
"No doubt that the resumption of coal mining would bring some increase in state revenue, but it would also contribute to the growth of major coffers of the Underground groups like ULFA, NSCN, and NDFB, etc in the area,” it stated.
It is also pertinent to recall that said coalfields allocated to Arunachal Pradesh Mineral Development and Trading Corporation during the year 2003 by Coal Ministry, GOI had to be suspended in 2012 with the intervention of Home Ministry on the reports of this coal fields contributing the growth of banned outfits.
While recalling the assassination of MLA Khonsa, Tirong Aboh, it opined that resumption of coal mining will result in the growth of Ultras activities in the area and could further deteriorate the present situation.
In the meantime, it highlighted the danger of leakages in coal marketing due to organizational incompetency and preparedness of APMDTCL which will tempt private coal mafias while also highlighting its environmental impact.
