ITANAGAR, Jul 11:The District Disaster Management Authority Capital Complex in collaboration with NDRF (National Disaster Response Force) 12th Bn E-Coy Chimpu organised a community awareness programme on basic dos and don’ts of disaster management here at North East Institute of Nursing, Vivek Vihar, Itanagar. 

Deputy Commissioner Capital Complex, Prince Dhawan has appealed capital dwellers to remain alert and to take precautionary measures in view of the monsoon season. Terming everyone as a stakeholder, he has requested everyone to learn from the community awareness programme and to pass on the message to others.  

Highlighting the aim of the programme, the DDMO Moromi Sonam informed that the programme would give basic information on how to conduct oneself during disasters. She also highlighted the working of the EOCs (Emergency Operating Centre) and also informed about the 24 hrs toll free helpline number ‘1077’ issued by the DDMA.             

During the programme, the NDRF team led by inspector Rana Kumar gave brief demonstration on the basic steps and techniques of rescue during disaster and also highlighted the use of improvised tools and methods from locally available resources like the use of sack as stretchers, use of bottles as tube etc. The NDRF team displayed several techniques for rescuing people in distress as well as displayed different rescue equipment.

  The programme would be conducted in few more locations of the Capital Complex.             

Earlier, Smti Jogam Angu FO DM urged everyone to take advantage of the programme and thanked the NDRF for their effort to sensitize the people on disaster management.
