ITANAGAR, Apr 17: The state horticulture department has advised deputy commissioners to review the functioning of the Agriculture Produce Marketing Committee (APMC) in their concerned districts to deal with any shortage of vegetables in the bazaars for the public.
Secretary to the agriculture & horticulture department, Bidol Tayeng, sent out a letter to all deputy commissioners stating that the import of green vegetables has either been stopped or not coming in from Assam due to lack of transportation, leading to a general shortage of green vegetables in the state.
He said that while the situation in most districts is “manageable as vegetables from rural areas are finding their markets in the district towns”, the situation in the state capital is “acute”.
The letter asked the DCs, who are also the chairpersons of the APMCs in their districts, to review and resume the markets.
“The APMCs have already been directed to identify the surplus pockets in the district and distribute the surplus within the deficit pockets in the district. If there are more surplus, the concerned district APMC can also despatch the same to the state capital through APMC by following certain protocols,” it said.
Additionally, there is about 100 metric tonne of potatoes in cold storage in Banderdewa, Papum Pare, the letter informed.
Chief Executive Officer (CEO) the of Arunachal Pradesh Agriculture Marketing Board (Department of Agriculture), Okit Palling, has been ‘nominated’ as the state nodal officer to coordinate with all the APMCs. ES Newsdesk
