PASIGHAT, Jul 28: Deputy Commissioner East Siang Dr. Kinny Singh participated in a 3-month long campaign titled ‘Samudayik Shauchalaya Abhiyan (SSA)-2020’ conducted by the Department of PHE & WS Division, Pasighat on Monday at Ledum village, which is a people’s campaign to construct and maintain community toilets and promote their usage for improved community health under SBM (Gramin).
Executive Engineer PHE Division, Pasighat Er. Mijing Dupak briefed on the aims and objectives of the campaign. The objectives of SSA 2020 are to create awareness on sanitation and hygiene which deserve utmost priority during the current Covid-19 pandemic. This will involve mobilising districts and villages to construct and maintain community toilets, promote sustainable usage, increase the sense of ownership within villagers and ensure that toilets are available in public areas to be accessed by the floating labourers/population. Er. Dupak extended his appreciation to the people of Ledum for their cooperation with the PHE Department and helping in achieving the ODF status with the coveted “Cleanest Village” award under East Siang in 2018. Gaon Burah Tayam Dupak expressed his gratitude to the team led by the DC.
Meanwhile, interacting with the villagers, the DC highlighted the various programmes that had been conducted under SBM (Gramin) in the past and urged them to maintain the community toilets and assured to make Ledum a zero-waste village. She also promised to provide a shredding machine to manage the menace of hazardous plastic waste.
