ROING, May 24:The Deputy Commissioner, Lower Dibang Valley, Mitali Namchoom had an interaction session with the students and faculty from School of Social work, University of South Florida, Tampa, USA; Arunachal Institute of Tribal Studies, Rajiv Gandhi University and members of Research Institute of World's Ancient Traditions, Culture and Heritage ( RIWATCH) on Wednesday, who are here on a 'Cultural Resources Management' programme.
The DC briefed the students about the duties and responsibilities of a Deputy Commissioner and informed them about the thrust areas like agriculture, tourism, education etc that the DA was concentrating on, in the district.
She also answered questions on drug addiction, education for children with learning disabilities, programmes for women in the sphere of health etc.
The group of students from University of South Florida and Rajiv Gandhi University are here under the programme 'Northeast Himalayas in India: Socio- cultural Context of Indigenous People's Health. The group have had an opportunity to interact with and learn about the socio- cultural context of people's health in Dibrugarh, Assam and Roing, Arunachal Pradesh. They have also spent time with and learnt about the traditions, social structures, health practices and lifestyle of indigenous communities. At the end of the programme, the students will be able to compare and contrast the practices and interventions/ programmes across three different regions of India and compare them with those used in the USA.
