Roing, Aug 20: Deputy Commissioner, Lower Dibang Valley district Mitali Namchoom made a field visit to agricultural fields cultivated by the Farmers Interest Groups (FIG) under the Mission Organic Value Chain Development Programme implemented by the Department of Agriculture, Roing on Thursday.
The team also visited the large-scale ginger cultivation fields at Jia, Bolung and Parbuk. Visiting the Custom Hiring Centre and Office of the LDV Organic Ginger Producer Company Ltd. at Rayeng village and the Collection Centre at Roing, DC handed over the keys of a tractor and multi-utility vehicle to the MD of the company Gagan Perying. Interacting with farmers, she encouraged them to grow organic crops as it will fetch higher market price besides helping in maintaining soil fertility and consumer health. She also enquired about the stock position of the company and revenue generation programmes.
The MD elaborated on the revenue generation policy through Custom Hiring Centre and the strategy for marketing surplus ginger produce. Service Provider, Sikkim State Cooperative Supply and Marketing Federation Ltd. Bhaskar Gohain informed that 3 trucks of consignments have already been marketed by the FPC through SIMFED market linkage to a Bangalore-based company.
The farmers said the team’s visit will boost their morale to continue organic cultivation. DIPRO
