ITANAGAR, Jun 14: A virtual meeting on issues relating to the Education Department and problems faced by the school authorities in the Capital Complex was convened today by ICR Deputy Commissioner Talo Potom with Itanagar MLA Techi Kaso, mayor Tame Phassang, Deputy Mayor Biri Basang, SP Jimmy Chiram, corporators and other stakeholders.
While stressing that attaining academic excellence should be the priority, Kaso sought cooperation from all stakeholders to improve the quality of education in the Capital Complex. Strict action should be initiated against the land encroachers, the MLA observed and asked the DC to look into the genuine matters of land allotment of schools. Deliberating on drug menace, he urged the corporators and denizens to report such cases to the administration. The mayor informed that during the course of visit to various schools, he found many of them in a pathetic condition and assured full help from the IMC in providing the toilets, adding that funds have been sanctioned from the IMC for infrastructural development of such schools. The SP informed that Capital Police is making all efforts to curb drug menace, assuring along with that patrolling will be intensified in coming days.
DDSE Mallo Yam Gollo highlighted the issues of lack of subject teachers, requirement of protection and boundary walls for checking encroachment etc. in schools. ZPM Tok Tama highlighted the issue of shortage of teachers in schools, the need for boundary walls, night guards etc. Corporators Ruhi Tagung, Tarh Nachung and Tarh Achak specifically highlighted the requirement of teachers, upgradation of schools, construction of boundary walls, land allotment etc. All corporators said that proper demarcation should be made along with boundary walls to check encroachment.
AAPSU VP Meje Taku suggested that directions may be given to the school In-charges to submit the details of encroachment and the summer vacation be utilised for maintenance and other infrastructure development works.The representatives of ANSU and Law Students’ Union stressed on the need to check drug abuse and requested to carry out surprise checking at tobacco and wine shops near schools.
The DC asked all the corporators to visit the schools within their jurisdiction and directed the DLRSO to carry out proper boundary demarcation and serve notices to the encroachers.
