Itanagar, Jan 29: A preliminary meeting of the District Level Steering Committee on Food Safety and Standard was held today in the chamber of the Deputy Commissioner Itanagar Capital Region Komkar Dulom with the officers of LM&CA, Food Safety, APMC, Tax and Excise and also representatives of Arunachal Chamber of Commerce and Industries and Market Welfare Associations.
Stressing on the need for proper awareness on food safety and hygiene, the DC asked the concerned departments to carry out checking drives routinely and to urge the business community to adhere to standard rules and regulations of Food safety.
Lokham Mangha, Designated Officer Food Safety DHS Naharlagun informed about the various provisions of Food Safety.
He also informed that it is mandatory for business communities to have food licence/registration under Section 31 of Food safety Standard Act,2006. He also briefed about the status of licence/registration in the district, defaulters of food licence and registration, punishment U/S 63 of FSS Act, 2006, etc
He also highlighted about the prohibition on use of carbide gas in ripening of fruits, sale of loose edible oil, sale of loose powdered spices and condiments, restriction on use of newspaper as food packing material, etc.
He further informed that the team on Food safety is doing its best to ensure safety for which three food safety on wheels/ mobile food testing vehicles are pressed in service.
